Please join us for a special glimpse into the newest Hidden Voices project exploring violence and survival in the actual lives of women from diverse ethnic backgrounds. These survival stories are horrifying but undeniably inspiring. Looking steadfastly at both realities allows us to enter a realm in which awareness grows and healing thrives. This new Hidden Voices project explores violence and survival in the actual lives, historical narratives, and traditional folklore of women from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Violence against women and girls is a major human rights issue and a global phenomenon of epidemic proportions. Using personal stories, original music, photography, and movement, Speaking Without Tongues uncovers and expresses the almost unspeakable truths of these contemporary lives as told against a backdrop of tradition and legend. We are happy to announce, Because We Are Still Here (and Moving) will be performed at the UNC Department of Dramatic Arts. Dates TBA - Winter 2009. We hope to mount the entire project in full, providing the community with more opportunities for community dialogue and action and interaction. More to come...
Hidden Voices has recently been given a Strowd Roses grant. This grant will be used for the completion of the online version of the BWSHAM community map, the text tour, and Because We're Still HERE stickers.
