Challenging, strengthening and connecting our diverse communities through the transformative power of the individual voice.

Who We Are

Hidden Voices brings life-changing stories into a public forum so that we develop a stronger, more understanding community. Since 2003, Hidden Voices has created a venue where those rarely heard and seen by the mainstream society take center stage to tell their stories, reveal their histories, explore survival, challenge and the exhilaration of life.

These stories provide insight about identity, place, and access; about women, children, families, and men; about the unrecognized, the unfamiliar, the displaced and forgotten among us. Hidden Voices humanizes the faceless and serves as a platform for the voiceless.

Often our participants, from literacy students to teen immigrants to survivors of domestic violence, are discussed from a deficit perspective. They are described by what they are in need of rather than by the strengths they already possess. Hidden Voices projects provide the unique opportunity to focus on the richness in their lives, to highlight the challenges they have overcome, and to envision a path forward for the broader community.

Stories create pathways. Stories open minds and inspire action. Stories make change possible.
